2010 was a bad year for the Freedom. Stolen elections in Iran and Belarus. Repression in Thailand. Constitutional amendments and Dekretismus in Venezuela and Eritrea. In 2010, 26 countries have been downgraded to the index of Freedom House. The Economist Intelligence Unit of London headlined even "2010-Democracy in Retreat". Particularly in Africa, the outcome was disastrous, which was attributed also to China's influence.
2011 could be a good year for freedom. Just in January 2011 has already lost the presidency by a dictator (Tunis), a second resource-rich part of his country (Sudan) and a third based on its repression Authority (Egypt). People demand freedom from the yoke of corrupt dictatorships. Not every freedom movement is inherently democratic, but democracy remains the only way to preserve freedom. Both goals are directly and inextricably linked.
